About

Lara began her legal career over 20 years ago representing federal, state and local government entities and nonprofit organizations in civil rights and constitutional law matters. Lara eventually transitioned her practice to focus solely upon the representation of community associations and joined FRA in 2010. Amongst Lara’s many professional achievements was her role as a member of the appellate litigation team which represented a community association in Villas West II v. McGlothin, 885 N.E.2d 1274 (2008). In that case, Lara was instrumental in convincing the Indiana Supreme Court to reverse the lower court and hold that the association’s rental restriction did not violate the Fair Housing Act.

Lara also was very active in promoting the interests of community associations and the legal profession through her membership in various community association industry trade groups and several bar associations. Lara was an active member of the Community Associations Institute (CAI) and the Association of Condominium, Townhouse and Homeowners Associations (ACTHA). Lara’s contributions to these organizations included her service as a board member of the Illinois Chapter of CAI, presenting at CAI’s national law seminar and regularly authoring articles and lecturing upon topics relating to community association law. Lara also was a co-author of the chapter discussing municipal litigation in the 2015 Illinois municipal law handbook published by the Illinois Institute of Continuing Legal Education.
